Community Sister City:
A people - to - people program building understanding and friendship between citizens of Osage, Iowa and Lermontov, Stavropol Region, Russia. 

Community Activity 2000
1.  The seventh grade Middle School classes of Mark Campbell continue e-mail exchanges with seventh grade students in Lermontov.  Individual e-mail exchanges are developing additional pen friends. Exchanging cultural and historical information remains a strong class project.  Lermontov art students shared prints which were published in the Mitchell County Press-News.   

2. Twenty persons attended
Through Russian Eyes, a 2-session continuing education class sponsored by NIACC and Community Sister City, at the Osage Public Library in September. Presenters were Irina Balyurko, Kemerov, Siberia and Baika Puntsag, Ulan Bater, Mongolia, senior students at Waldorf College, Forest City, Iowa.

3. Irina Balyurko and Baika Puntsag spoke and answered questions at the annual meeting in October.  New board members were elected and plans presented for the year 2001.

4. Community Sister City joined with Sister City International and 1000 other organizations in over 130 nations supporting "One Day In Peace and a Millennium Meal --January 1, 2001."  This worldwide effort bringing "Peace on Earth One Day at a Time" emphasizes non-violence and sharing of gifts of food.   

Plans for 2001: Visit on April 26, 2001 of Governor Alexandre Chernegorov and his delegation from the Stavropol Region, Russia, a continuing emphasis on the culture of peace, continuing the Middle School student e-mail exchanges; and visits from Russian friends.

We need and depend on your membership for our operating expenses.  The annual dues for the year 2001 remain $5.00 for a single membership and $15.00 for a family of more than two persons.  We welcome additional gifts.  Your membership and gifts are tax deductible.

ORGANIZED IN 1992 TO:
Promote Education, Friendly Relations and Mutual Understanding between the citizens of Osage, Iowa, and citizens of Lermontov, Stavropol Krai, Russia, and to learn more about the sister city program, especially about Lermontov town, located in the Stavropol Region, Russia.

MEMBERS:
"Any reputable business firm, individual, association, corporation, partnership or estate, having an interest in the objectives of the corporation, shall be eligible for membership" (Article II.1 Bylaws)
Member of Sister Cities International since 1992.

MEETINGS:
Annual meeting of the members of the corporation shall be held on the last Monday in the month of October in each year at the hour of 7:30 p.m..  Board of Directors may fix some other date according to directives of Article II, Section 2, of the by-laws.
The Board of Directors meets the 4th Monday of the month at the Osage Public Library, unless otherwise notified. Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS:
The Board of Directors shall manage the business and affairs of the corporation. Number of Board of Directors shall not be less than nine.  Four of the Directors shall be appointed representatives of the Osage Chamber of Commerce, Osage City Council, Mitchell County Board of Supervisors and Osage Community School District Board of Education. The remainder of the Directors shall be representatives of the community at large.  Each at-large director shall have been elected and qualified to serve staggered 3-year term.  Directors must be members of the corporation.

OFFICERS:
The officers of the corporation shall be two Co-Chairs and a Secretary/ Treasurer, each of whom shall be annually elected by the Board of Directors of the corporation.  No person may hold more than one office. The Executive Committee is appointed by the Board of Directors.  It shall be composed of three or more members of the board.
