Communications Access for People with Disabilities
Access for People with Disabilities and Solo Hablantes Españoles/Spanish Only Speakers
Relay Iowa, a program of the Iowa Utilities Board, provides full telephone accessibility assistance for people who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, deaf-blind, have difficulty speaking or for personas de habla Hispana/Spanish speaking persons.
Hamilton Relay operates Relay Iowa providing this traditional relay service for the state of Iowa, including TTY, Voice Carry Over (VCO), Speech-to-Speech (STS), Visually Assisted Speech-to-Speech (VA STS), Spanish/English-to-Spanish (Español/Inglés-a-Español) and CapTel.
Specially trained Communication Assistants process relay calls and stay on the line to relay conversations electronically, over a Text Telephone (TTY) or verbally to hearing parties. The service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with no restrictions on the number of calls placed or on their length.
Telecommunications Access Iowa (TAI)
Telecommunications Access Iowa (TAI) is a program of the Iowa Utilities Board and is administered by Deaf Services unlimited, Inc. This program was established because of the Americans with Disabilities Act to work in conjunction with Relay Iowa, a telephone relay service to provide for communication access over the telephone.
TAI assists you in getting telephone equipment that can allow you to speak directly over the telephone or use your equipment in conjunction with the Relay Iowa service.
If you or someone you know would benefit from this service, please contact Hamilton Relay and Telecommunications Access Iowa (TAI) or call Osage Municipal Utilities for more information.
